BVOD (Broadcast Video on Demand)

BVOD (Broadcast Video on Demand)

BVOD platforms allow viewers to watch programmes from television broadcasters on demand. This may include previously broadcast programmes, live streams or exclusive online content. The services are typically free to access with advertising, although some platforms also offer paid premium subscriptions.

By making locally produced content available whenever viewers choose, BVOD bridges the gap between traditional linear television and today's flexible viewing habits.

In a market where international streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video continue to gain market share, BVOD provides broadcasters with an important competitive advantage. It enables them to maintain a direct relationship with their audiences while generating advertising revenue through their own streaming platforms.

Examples of BVOD platforms in Belgium and Luxembourg include VRT MAX, VTM GO, GoPlay and RTL play (RTL Belgium).
