VRT consolidates radio apps into VRT MAX

From 31 August, the individual apps for Radio 1, Radio 2, MNM, Studio Brussel, Klara, De Tijdloze and Radio Bene will be phased out. The radio stations themselves will continue to exist and broadcast live. Only digital access is being centralised: listeners who want to tune in via an app, catch up on content or use other features will be redirected to VRT MAX.

All existing radio functionality will remain available via VRT MAX. Users will be able to listen live, replay clips, discover podcasts, send messages and take part in programme-related activities. According to VRT, bringing everything together in a single app will make it easier for listeners to find the full range of content, while also improving efficiency in the development and management of digital services.

Live radio continues to play an important role in Flanders. According to the cited CIM figures, 66% of daily audio listening time is spent on live radio and 29% on streaming. Streaming is becoming increasingly important among younger audiences, while people aged 45 and over still listen extensively to live radio.

VRT is also continuing to invest in podcasts and other forms of on-demand audio. Existing programmes are being supplemented with podcast versions, while new productions are being made available via VRT MAX.
