Spotted: Bauer Media Outdoor activates DOOH campaigns via real-time triggers

Sometimes we come across an example that clearly reflects a broader development in the media market. This time: Bauer Media Outdoor reports that several advertisers used real-time weather data to activate DOOH and pDOOH campaigns across its network this summer.

Coca-Cola and Evian triggered campaigns when predefined temperature thresholds were reached, while Partenamut used the UV index to deliver timely sun protection messages.

The network supports contextual activation based on a wide range of live data signals, including temperature, precipitation, UV index, pollen levels, air quality, time of day, traffic density and sports results.

The next step is Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO). Here, live data not only determines when an ad is shown, but can also change the creative message itself in real time. This makes context increasingly relevant not just for targeting, but for the creative execution of DOOH campaigns as well.

According to the BMO x Kantar Pulse survey (2024), 78% of Belgians notice DOOH advertising and 71% take a follow-up action after exposure. Research by BMO and Neuro-Insight found that contextually relevant campaigns can increase advertising effectiveness by 17%.
